Recent research highlights
PubMed, the scientific database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, provides access to a large and continually growing body of research on QLF technology. Recent studies show how the technology is developing beyond visualisation alone:
- A 2026 study involving 704 teeth from 137 young participants found that QLF measurements could help distinguish developmental enamel defects from early caries.
- A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis reported high diagnostic accuracy in differentiating sound tooth surfaces from enamel and dentin caries.
- A 2024 study combining a handheld QLF device with artificial intelligence demonstrated the potential for automated caries screening in both professional and home settings.
- Research among children found that QLF-based visual feedback can support oral-health education and achieve an educational effect comparable to traditional plaque-disclosing agents.
These findings do not mean that every possible application is already ready for routine use. They do show how QLF is developing from an established research technology into a broader platform for prevention, monitoring, communication, and AI-supported assessment.
