COLGATE INTRODUCES OQ

Young boy is checking Colgate OQ with oral qamera

A year ago Inspektor Research Systems started to introduce a new brand. A brand for serving the clinical and consumer markets. In this year a lot happened. We have set steps in the right direction but we have not yet reached our goal: waking up in a world without caries. Cariogenic dental plaque causes the number 1 disease in our country and elsewhere. Dental plaque does not only cause substantial damage to people’s teeth, but also takes a big cut in the available care budget. Dental caries is associated with the development of cardiovascular and Alzheimer’s diseases. We could save some 52 billion Euro annually on our healthcare costs by taking effective prevention steps.

Waking up in a caries free world.

We all want this, you might think. That is both true and untrue: although being a desired outcome by the vast majority, in day-to-day real life politicians and health insurers are still focused on curing people rather than preventing people from getting sick. And most healthcare professionals have been educated to cure diseases. Therefore, the focus of dentistry is still on filling cavities, rather than preventing cavities from developing.

Fortunately, we get support from an unexpected angle.

At the moment a number of dentists is working with Oral Qamera and more will start using this technology in the near future. We will keep you posted on which practices are joining. Right now a leading dental equipment manufacturer has decided to integrate our QLF technology into their equipment. And then there is a sudden support from an unexpected angle. Colgate introduces Oral Quotient. “Do You Know Your OQ™?” links to their website. By the way: if you want to know more about our devices, please send us an email.

Detecting young plaque with Oral Qamera.

It is only a matter of time before you can detect young dental plaque with Oral Qamera. This means that, at the end of the day, you can see whether you have brushed properly in the morning. This new Oral Qamera device works with an app to help you keeping track of your oral hygiene on a daily basis. Never fear the dentist again is just a matter of time. With this initiative from Colgate, we are one step closer.

FOUR STEPS

Four steps towards a world without caries

With the arrival of Oral Qamera it becomes possible to one day wake up in a world without caries. In that new world, no one has to worry about the health of our mouths and the mouth is seen by many specialists as the mirror of the body. Everyone knows the first three steps. The fourth step is new. Because with Oral Qamera, everyone at home can immediately check whether they have cleaned properly. Young plaque is immediately visible and can therefore be tackled effectively. Below are the four steps.

Step 1

Of course, it starts with brushing your teeth. Brush twice a day for 2 minutes with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, preferably with an electric toothbrush.

Step 2

After brushing, interdental cleaning is almost a mandatory step. Clean the surfaces between your teeth once a day with floss, toothpicks or brushes.

Step 3

Plaque is stubborn and therefore it is recommended to rinse daily with mouthwash. Rinse with 20 ml for 30 seconds twice a day.

Step 4

Quick and easy check for plaque. Anyone can do it. Check with Oral Qamera twice a day whether all plaque has disappeared. If plaque remains, start again with step 1.

In the clinical world there is already a Qamera available to detect plaque. We currently have a scanner available for the consumer market that makes old plaque visible. The Oral Qamera Smart Scanner that highlights young plaque is expected to be available at the end of 2021. Contact us for more information.
